Description

Label: A seven-character verse inscribed by the artist at the left top of the painting contains four sentences:
Several clusters of glistening beads covered with clear water
When drunken, I can paint something using ink.
With a bald brushpen, worn from my enduring painting,
Ramblingly dotted grapes from ink.
Signature. Collected lines by Qing Teng (Xu Wei, 1521-1593). Painted in Shanghai, fall of the year renxu (1982), Zhu Qizhan at age ninety-one, from Meihua Cangtang (Plum-Blossom Thatched House).

Inscriptions: poem of Qingteng (Xu Wei, 1521-1593), dated renxu (1982), painted at Meihua Caotang in Shanghai, signed Zhu Qizhan at the age of ninety-one with 4 artist seals reading Loujiang Zhushi, Qizhan, Meihua Caotang and xinbi zhihui (from auction catalog Bonhams and Butterfields, Tuesday, June 7, 2005
Exhibition History: was installed on 7/12/1983 at Central Termianl, SFO; found to be inappropriate for the site due to light sensitive nature of the painting; instead had been in storage for 10 years; SF ARts Commission deaccessioned and offered it to be auctioned at Bonhams & butterfield; pulled out of the auction.
